Little did I know that this exercise would only make things worse. The solution to this, I thought, was to go into Control Panel > Programs and Features and uninstall Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center. The original problem was that, whenever I went into Control Panel > Mouse to adjust my mouse settings, I would get a dialog telling me that the Mouse and Keyboard Center was not able to be installed because the installer was looking for files that did not exist. (I was using Windows 7 圆4 not sure whether any of these details would vary on another Windows operating system.) Instead, I had to mount a determined extermination campaign. Sadly, the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center did not die along with it. I used to have a Microsoft mouse, but it died.
